In last week's introductory post on the magazine cover art of Margaret Brundage, I mentioned that many of her covers, including her first
Weird Tales cover, featured an S&M theme with lesbian undertones, which were probably painted at the request of editor Farnsworth Wright, who understood the tastes of his readers better than they seemed to themselves.
